Sustainability Policy
At Kiss Kiss Artisan Foods, sustainability is embedded in everything we do from ingredient sourcing to production, packaging and delivery. Below is an overview of the key practices we've implemented in our Small Business to reduce our environmental impact and support our local community:
-
Recycling Program
We operate a structured recycling program for all cardboard, paper and plastic waste. Staff are regularly trained to follow correct waste segregation procedures, ensuring compliance and minimising landfill contributions. -
Waste Management
We are connected to a septic tank system which has a grease trap connected between the kitchen and Septic Tank to ensure all wastewater is managed responsibly. This setup prevents fats, oils, and solids from entering the local water system, protecting the environment and ensuring compliance with water authority regulations. The grease trap is also on a maintenance program and is emptied and collected by Western Resource Recovery who holds a Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) Licenced Treatment Facility to prevent pollution, control environmental impact, and ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Act where it is treated at the facility. -
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Solutions
We predominantly use Chemform Green certified products for cleaning and sanitising processes across our facility. Chemform has developed an emission management plan to reduce their emissions per unit of product produced and are committed to remaining Carbon Neutral. These environmentally responsible chemicals meet high safety standards without compromising hygiene. Chemform Green is a range of chemicals supplied by Chemform which are classified as NON-DANGEROUS GOODS according to the criteria of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code, they are also:- Readily biodegradable
- Phosphate free
- No added Chlorine or Chlorine releasing agents or chlorinated solvents
- Does not contain any petroleum derived hydrocarbons
- Does not contain any carcinogens
- Heavy Metal Free
- Does not contain any alkyl phenol ethoxylates
- Come in Recyclable packaging
-
Bulk Packaging Solutions
All products are packaged in recyclable cardboard cartons containing 100, 150, or 240 units of product, depending on the item. This bulk packaging model minimises excess materials and reduces overall packaging waste. -
Optimised Delivery Schedule
To reduce our carbon footprint and diesel emissions, we consolidate customer deliveries into two designated days per week. This approach allows us to serve multiple customers efficiently while limiting time spent on the road. -
Eco-Friendly Delivery Vehicle
Our delivery vehicle is an Isuzu NNR Delivery truck which has installed a Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD) which is a type of diesel particulate filter (DPF) that traps harmful soot and particulate matter from diesel engine exhaust to reduce emissions. It functions by channelling exhaust gas through a ceramic filter with a honeycomb structure, and it periodically undergoes a regeneration process to burn off the collected soot at high temperatures, turning it into ash. This system is crucial for improving air quality. -
Off-Peak Production Operations
Wherever possible, we operate during off-peak electricity periods (9:00 PM to 9:00 AM). This practice reduces strain on the power grid and aligns with responsible energy consumption principles. -
Local and Ethical Sourcing
We are proud to support local agriculture by sourcing all our meat, produce, dairy, eggs, and grains exclusively from Australian Growers. This reduces transport emissions and supports regional producers. We are a from scratch manufacturer and strive to purchase ingredients in their whole form to minimise the manufacturing process of each component of our recipes. - Plant-Based Product Lines Our range includes 47 plant-based products made using Australian-grown native sorghum and Australian ingredients where possible as well as certified organic ingredients such as coconut oil, maple syrup and cacao powder. These options provide sustainable choices for health and environmentally conscious consumers.
-
Hand Crafted Products
Our Range of products are 98% Hand Crafted. The only products that are made with a machine are our pies and quiches. We produce over 100 products that are handcrafted, this minimising energy consumption and offering/creating more job opportunities for workers in the food industry and community. -
Bulk Ingredient Purchasing
Where possible, we purchase our ingredients in bulk and receive deliveries by the pallet. This minimises packaging waste and reduces the number of transport trips required. -
Waste-Minimising Product Format
All our products are sold frozen and portioned, enabling customers to defrost or bake only what is needed. This format significantly reduces food waste at the point of use. We also sell at a reduced price to the public through our factory outlet any trimmings from Cakes and Slices further reducing food waste. -
Efficient, Large-Scale Production
Each product is manufactured in bulk batches, allowing us to maximise the use of our equipment and improve energy efficiency throughout our production cycles. -
Sustainability Training for Staff
All staff receive training in waste sorting, efficient production methods, and energy conservation. For example; staff are encouraged to fully load dishwashers to reduce water and chemical use during cleaning processes. -
Empowering Women in Business
We are a proudly female-owned and operated business, committed to creating opportunities for women to grow and thrive confidently in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
As we are a small family business, we do not currently hold any Environmental or Social Certifications, however we are committed to aligning our processes with the principles behind these standards and hopefully becoming a Certified Green Company in the future, we are also planning to install Solar Panels to our new built factory in the coming years.
